ASIA SHABAZZ TELLS US HER STORY

Asia Shabazz

Birthed amidst the flashing lights and glits & glam of Hollywood, there is no uncertainty that budding R&B beauty, Asia Shabazz was destined for stardom from the very beginning. Besides her fated birthplace, the stunning songstress with the tomboy aesthetic was blessed with all of the key elements of a dynamic performer.

Early on Shabazz honed her innate passion for dance, and soon after began to nurture her vocal abilities. “I was born and raised off dance,” said Shabazz. “Dancing has my passion and music has my soul.” Both talents have made her a stand-out performer and her ability to fearlessly take the stage doesn’t hurt either. “Performing for me is my ultimate favorite thing. To be on that stage is everything that I live for. It takes me to a whole other light that I can’t explain,” said Shabazz.

HerStory

In 2010, the 22-year-old songstress was introduced to the music scene as one-third of the R&B group, HerStory. With a spunky, girl-next-door image, the group’s popularity grew rapidly—but just as they began to shift into high-gear things abruptly halted and HerStory was put on hold with no definitive answers about their future. But Shabazz’s ‘don’t stop’ work ethic wouldn’t allow her too much time away from working towards her dream. She made the bittersweet decision to pursue a solo career in early 2011. “It [being a solo artist] takes a lot of disciple and it really just goes back to whether or not you’re ambitious enough to do what you want to do…I’ve been blessed with a really great team behind me, so I’m alone but I’m not alone,” Shabazz expresses. “[As a solo artist] you’re going off of your own instincts…”

In just a short amount of time, Shabazz has stirred up an impressive buzz and has begun working on her first solo project pulling influences from the voices she grew-up listening to in the 90s like Janet, Mary J., Brandy, and Chaka Khan.

Her cover of the popular Frank Ocean track, “Novacane,” has landed Shabazz on the pages of blogs all over the net and on the lips of many music admirers. She nailed the cover with a femininely flawless rendition about love and heartache, which was more relatable to her opposed to the song’s original focus. Appropriately titled, New Beginning, Asia’s forthcoming EP will be a fresh start for the songbird and will give her listeners an opportunity to hear her new sound. “You can expect to hear a little bit of Hip-Hop, a little bit of Rock, a little bit of my edgy side and a little bit of my around the way side,” she said.

Balancing her singing career while pursuing a degree in Business Management, and making it a point to attend church every Sunday are only a few examples of Shabazz’s drive. And with the belief that “in order to stay true to yourself, you have to know yourself,” her witty, free-spirited personality, and passion—Shabazz will own the spotlight as a solo artist!

Hi I saw this young lady on a show called Dinner With Friends and decided to google her. I’m not a fan of R&B music, but I will say she has a nice voice. Most of all I want to touch on Miss Asia bio; that’s what really got my attention. There was one thing that stood out the most to me and that was that she makes it her business to go to church. That’s awesome because you don’t hear to many young people or people in general that’s living the Hollywood life, mentioning serving the Lord. I do want to encourage Asia to push even harder to do God’s will for her life. It is a thin line between serving the Lord and the Devil. You cannot serve two masters; your going to either love one and hate the other. So many people are blinded by true fame and fortune. Work the gifts God has given you, but use them unto the glory of God. The best fame one can ever have is being a follower of Christ, because when it’s all said and done our lives will speak for us. No one is perfect we all have things we need to work on, but we have to realize that the glitz and glam is only for a little while, but Christ is forever:).

    Blessings,
    Patrice

P.S Asia this reply is not to judge you, but to express what is real. You can email me back if you want.
